Hiking Kilt – Pacific Blue

Hiking Kilt – Pacific Blue

Buckle Closure

You can give your kilt that custom look (and added security & adjustability) by adding buckles and straps.
We can add leather straps with chrome buckles OR nylon webbing with side-release buckles.

Also note: If you opt for the Buckles and straps, we HIGHLY recommend adding the sewn-down-pleats option as they compliment each other.

Also, it is best to hand wash (or dry clean) your kilt with leather straps.

Important: We cannot accept returns for customized goods, i.e., belt loops, sewn-down pleats, custom length, fringe, or buckles. Please be precise with measurements!

Belt Loops

Although you don't need a belt to hold up your kilt, we'll be glad to add 'em so you can wear your favorite belt.

Belt loops can also be used to thread your sporran "chain-belt" through. This is the traditional use of belt loops on a kilt.

TIP: Belt Loop size should be at least 1/4" larger than the belt width in order to have room for the belt hardware, e.g., the keeper.

Please note: We cannot accept returns for customized goods, i.e., belt loops, sewn pleats, custom length. Please measure carefully!

Now you can have us add 2 hidden side pockets to your Sport Kilt. You won’t even know they’re there unless you’re looking for them, or you’ve got your hands in your pockets.

A great custom option for those that have to have pockets on their kilts!

Please allow us a couple of days to customize your kilt with pockets before your order ships.

Custom Length

Use a measuring tape, instead of using your pant size. This will determine your waist measurement.

The ideal kilt length: While kneeling, measure from the top of your waist (where you'd wear your kilt) to the floor. Some say your kilt should just brush against the ground when you are kneeling. Of course personal preference is the rule! Have it YOUR way.

Note:  Ultimate and Commando kilts tend to sit higher on the waist (more like a traditional kilt) than our standrard Sport Kilts. Therefore, you may want to add an extra inch or two in length to compensate. If in doubt, be assured that ninety five percent of the time, our standard size Medium-long, large, XL, abd XXL length of 22.5 inches will fit most guys 5' 10" and 6' 2" tall.

Please Note: We cannot accept returns for customized goods, i.e., belt loops, sewn pleats, custom length. Measure carefully, please!

I’m really loving this kilt, and am totally going to be buying another to just hang around in. After about 100 trail miles here are my thoughts:
    – Lightweight and extremely comfortable
    – Dries quickly when wet
    – The pockets are a great addition and are constructed in such a way that I never worried about things falling out when I sat down.
    – Sizing was accurate

    – The front stash pocket is fairly useless. It’s tough to get into while wearing a pack with a hip belt, and even when not wearing a pack I found it awkward to access.
    – Unless you’re going to wear a separate belt, skip the belt loops.
    – If you are getting pockets and the buckle closures, be aware that the second buckle will lie over the top of the pocket on the right hand side. When buckled I have a hard time accessing that pocket quickly.

Completed a 2190.9 mile thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail in 2018 and every step of it was in a Pacific Blue Sportkilt. Minus 9 windchill temps in the Smokies required thermals underneath but much of the hike allowed for an uninterrupted breeze. The kilt held up really well, with washings about once a week, and it was intact except for some pleat stitching when I summited Katahdin after a little less than six months on trail. The Velcro waistband is perfect under a ruck and handled my 40lbs weight loss better than any other option. Finally, the kilt draws attention and that was perfect for promoting my charity hike for cancer research. If you want true hiking gear, this kilt with no accessories is the most comfortable, flexible, and durable option out there.

I have the black watch weather hiking kilt. Bought it a bit small so I could lose my last 10 pounds and keep wearing it. The Velcro and elastic are awesome additions. I wish I would’ve added pockets. Keeps you cool on hot days and will even keep you reasonably warm when walking the dog on a 36 degree fall evening. You can “dress” it up a bit with a sweater too. Wanting to get another but my girlfriend has hinted that Xmas is coming. Speaking of whom, she loves my kilts

  4. Mtn man

I have the Pacific blue kilt.

This is a great kilt for hiking or for warm weather. It’s lightweight & cool. I like the fact that I can wash it when I get home from a day of hiking, or if I’m out on the trail camping overnight, I can swish it around in a stream & it’ll be dry by morning.
    I like kilt A LOT!!!
I’ve already recommended it to a guy I know who wears a kilt rock climbing

Great for hiking or everyday wear!
First let me say that I made a mistake in ordering and forgot to include pockets. I also get the 24″ length as well. So, that said, I love this kilt. It’s the lightest kilt, and drys quickly if it gets wet. I suppose you could treat it, but why add weight? Even without pockets, the kilt remains very useful when hiking and allows me a freedom of movement I don’t get with either shorts or pants. Of course, if you wear it everyday (and it’s light enough to do so), you still have to be careful when sitting down so you don’t accidentally “flash” anyone. 🙂 Pockets though would make it perfect for everyday wear. For strictly hiking though, they’re not really necessary as you’ll most likely have some form of pack on, whether a full day backpack, or a hip pack. I’ve had it on several short hikes and again, can’t praise it enough. If you’re looking for a hiking kilt, this is the one. In any of the 3 colors it’ll be great.

    More than just a wrap
Got the Pacific Blue in time for the Loon Mtn. Highland Games. Lightweight and breezy, but still well-pleated and dressy enough to wear in place of a traditional wool kilt, as it was warmer than usual this year. Runners in the kilted mile race were all wearing Sportkilts. Although there was more than enough velcro to keep it secured,(follow the sizing directions), I opted for the belt loops (about wide enough for a traditional 2 1/2″ belt) to hang a sporran or water bottle. Can’t wait to get out on the trail with it.

    Favorite kilt, 2.0
This is the replacement for my husband’s first kilt, which he has shredded over 10 years. He has many Sportkilts, but the Pacific Blue Hiking Kilt is his favorite. He wears it camping and hiking, to the pool as a cover up, mows the lawn in it, puts it on first thing in the morning. After 10 years, his faded, threadbare, stained, frayed kilt need a replacement. In 10 years, I’ll buy another one. His others are all in great shape.

  10. Fireball

    completely satisfied
It’s been beastly hot up here in Eastern Washington, sometimes up to 105. This kilt is a godsend. Light and comfortable even on the hottest afternoons. It is very functional as well. You can wear it for hikes and if perchance you run into a crystal clear mountain lake you can just dive in. Your kilt will be dry before your hair is. Try it for yourself.

  11. dhenkle

    Perfect for Running Trails
The Hiking Kilt with a pair of compression shorts is much more comfortable for trail running than anything else I’ve tried. Rinses out easy and dries quick, ready for the next day.

  12. kiltdalek

    Great kilt for summer
Like this hiking kilt so much that I ordered another like it except with pockets this time.

  13. Ryan

    Better than expected!!
I just received my new hiking kilt in the mail today. Shipping was super fast. I bought it to have a kilt to lounge around in but this is superb quality! I’m playing a St. Paddy’s Day show with my band tonight, and I’ll be wearing this instead of my utility kilt.

  14. 17 yr boy sets new trend!

Great product – my son loves it and wears it to school!
Product is made very well and holds up wash after wash. We had a problem with sizing and the company was gracious and did several exchanges until we had the right fit!

  15. Linda Day

I came across your site and thought this would be a fun gift for my husband who has always stated he wanted a kilt. I loved the “sport” kilt idea made with a proper fabric for active use! He loves it, and while our area has lately been a bit chilly for him to brave a kilt yet. I have no doubt he will be sporting it this spring and summer for yard work, hiking and boating! Well made….nicely done.

  16. Timothy Gill

    I love it!
I needed my kilt in a hurry and Sport Kilt delivered in a flash! Great looking product that exceeded my high expectations. Fit and feel are incredible! I am now a loyal customer!

  17. Jane

    Sport kilt
Great service. Shipped on time and packaged with care. Recommended this site. This is the second sport kilt I have ordered for my son, trail name, “Chiefdaddy”. The first kilt I ordered in 2008 and he hiked the A.T. from Georgia to Maine. Now he is hiking the Pacific Coast Trail wearing the first kilt from 2008, and I just got him a second kilt the same style but different color, mailed it to him(Mail dropped). Great kilts.

  18. Josh

Great for Swimming in the ice winter water!!
I ordered the Hiker at the recommendation of Seamus after I asked for recommendation for my planned activity. I participated in something called the “Icy Plunge.” It is a fund raising event for Breast Cancer Awareness/Research. I jumped into Long Island Sound in the dead of winter with the hopes of people sponsoring you. I got lots of attention. Attention = more donations. I ordered it with belt loops and buckles. After ordering it arrived in a timely manner. I found it to be well made. It held up to the salt water without harm, dried quickly and did not fade, run or wrinkle after washing. It is a well made product. The fitting instructions on the web site were right on. All the women folk said it is very sexy too. 🙂 Since we are having a blizzard today I think I will wear it when I shovel the driveway, any one want to sponsor me? Conclusion, Excellent product and excellent customer service. Thank you.

  19. Alex Matras

The most comfortable thing I’ve ever worn
I’ve been hiking in this and worn it around town. I’ve never worn anything as comfortable as this kilt. I highly recommend it.

  20. Tom MacIntosh

Great for Running in Warm Weather!!
I have several Sport Kilts and have run races in each of them.

If I wear a number, I wear a Sport Kilt.

By far, my favorite for running is the Hiking Kilt. It’s lightweight and very comfortable, even for a half-marathon!

I plan to get another in Red.

  21. KEN

    Light and Cool!
My favorite SportKilt! Very light and comfortable. Holds pleats well.

  22. Shannon Cannings

This is my husband’s 3rd kilt, and by far, the most worn. He also has a black Sportkilt and a ridiculously heavy Utilikilt. I bought him this last one before a camping trip in Florida. It is lightweight, dries very quickly, and he wore it every day camping and many days since. He throws is on out of the shower and pool. We live in West Texas and it has been 100 degrees or more for a while. It is worth a few stares from the cowboys. This is a great product! Make more colors!

  23. BigDave

    The Hiker is GREAT!
My first Sport Kilt. A Hiker in Stewart Black. The construction is spot on. This thing is so lightweight and comfortable. I highly recomend the pockets and belt loops. I can’t wait for our hiking trips this summer. I look forward to my next Sport Kilt! Get a Hiker, you will love it.
