Women’s Hiking Kilt – Black Watch Weathered
Take one of Scotland’s most iconic tartans off the parade ground and onto the trail with the Women’s Hiking Kilt in Black Watch Weathered. Designed for active wear, this kilt combines the muted, rugged look of Black Watch Weathered tartan with the freedom of movement and easy fit that make a hiking kilt such a natural choice for the outdoors.
The Black Watch tartan has deep military roots. The regiment was formed in 1725 from Highland companies drawn from clans including Campbell, Fraser, Munro, and Grant, and the tartan became one of the most recognizable patterns in Scottish history. This weathered version gives that heritage a more subdued, trail-friendly look in charcoal, slate, and muted blue-green tones.
Built for the Trail
A hiking kilt gives you airflow, mobility, and unrestricted movement in a way that pants simply don’t. The shorter women’s cut keeps the silhouette athletic and practical while still delivering unmistakable kilt styling.
Whether you’re hiking switchbacks, walking a Celtic festival, traveling, camping, or just looking for something different from standard outdoor apparel, the Black Watch Weathered Women’s Hiking Kilt is built to move with you.
Customize the Fit
This kilt can be ordered in your preferred waist size and hem length, so you can dial in the fit that works best for your body and how you plan to wear it. Sport Kilt also offers optional buckle closures, hidden side pockets, and belt loops on this model.
Hidden side pockets are especially useful on the trail, giving you room for a phone, keys, or other small essentials without adding bulky cargo styling.
Buckle closures add another layer of security and a more traditional look, while belt loops make it easy to add a belt, pouch, or accessories.
Rugged Tartan, Easy Style
The Black Watch Weathered color palette makes this one of the easiest hiking kilts to wear. The dark gray, black, blue, and muted green tones pair naturally with:
- Hiking boots
- Trail shoes
- Merino or hiking socks
- Black or charcoal tops
- Outdoor jackets
- Packs and technical gear
It has enough Scottish character for Highland Games and Celtic festivals, but the restrained colors keep it from feeling overly formal or costume-like.

Care Instructions
You can machine wash your kilt with similar colors on cold; tumble dry on low or hang to dry. For the sharpest pleats, press with an iron on 75% heat setting.
Please Note: If your kilt has leather buckle straps, we recommend dry cleaning as the leather will dry out with machine washing/drying.

The Perfect Fit
Finding your waist size
Using a measuring tape, wrap it around your waist where you’d like the top of your kilt to sit. Don’t hold in your stomach. This measurement is usually 2″ larger than the size of your pants. You might consider giving yourself an extra inch, or so, for comfort. Take your waist measurement (in actual inches) and see where it falls in our size grid below.
Finding your length
The ideal kilt length for you: While kneeling, measure from the top of your waist (where you’d wear your kilt) to the floor. Some say your kilt should just brush against the ground when you are kneeling. Of course personal preference is the rule! Have it YOUR way.
Please Note:
All mini kilts have a standard length of 14″.
