The Black Watch Works Kilt starts with the comfort and easy fit of the Original Sport Kilt, then adds three popular custom options as standard:
- Sewn-down pleats for a cleaner, more tailored profile
- Black leather buckle straps for added security and traditional styling
- Fringed front panel edge for a finished, classic look
That means you get a more refined appearance right out of the box without having to build those upgrades individually.

Made from Sport Kilt’s comfortable poly-blend fabric, the Black Watch Works Kilt delivers excellent swing and drape without the itch or weight of traditional wool. The material holds a crisp pleat well, making it easy to maintain that sharp kilt silhouette.
The original Velcro closure and elastic waistband provide a secure yet forgiving fit, giving you a little extra flexibility and comfort throughout the day.
Whether you’re walking around a Highland festival, attending a wedding, competing at the games, or heading out for an evening with friends, this is a kilt designed to look sharp without feeling restrictive.
Built-In Stash Pocket
Every Black Watch Works Kilt includes a convenient 5″ x 6″ inside stash pocket located behind the front panel. It gives you a discreet place to keep a few small essentials while maintaining the traditional profile of the kilt.
For even more storage, optional hidden side pockets can also be added.
The Black Watch Tartan
Few tartans are as recognizable or versatile as Black Watch. Its dark green, navy, and black color palette gives it an understated appearance that can easily transition from casual to formal wear.
Pair it with a simple T-shirt and boots for a relaxed look, or add a dress shirt, kilt hose, sporran, belt, and jacket when the occasion calls for something more traditional.
Easy to Care For
Sport Kilt’s poly-blend fabric is designed for practical everyday wear. The kilt can be machine washed in cold water with similar colors and tumble dried on low or hung to dry. For especially sharp pleats, carefully press the fabric with an iron at approximately 75% heat.
Because the Works Kilt includes leather buckle straps, Sport Kilt recommends dry cleaning to help prevent the leather from drying out during machine washing and drying.
Find Your Best Fit
For proper sizing, measure around your waist exactly where you want the top of the kilt to sit rather than relying on your normal pants size. Your actual kilt measurement is typically about two inches larger than your pants size.
For traditional length, kneel and measure from your kilt waist to the floor. Ultimately, your preferred finished length comes down to how you like to wear your kilt.

Care Instructions
You can machine wash your kilt with similar colors on cold; tumble dry on low or hang to dry. For the sharpest pleats, press with an iron on 75% heat setting.

All Sport Kilts are pleated, but you can give your kilt that custom fitted shape with a leaner profile by having us sew down the pleats.
The first 4-5 inches of pleats (measured from the waistband) are sewn down along the knife edge of the pleat (vertically). This provides a more refined look and makes for easier care and pressing.

You can add two 1″ wide black leather straps and nickle-plated buckles to the opening end of your Sport Kilt. A functional, traditional looking adjustable double strap. You can also choose a Nylon Buckle Strap option as well.
While all Sport Kilts are secured with Velcro at the waistband, you can give your kilt that custom look (and added security) by adding buckles and straps.
Please Note: If you opt for the Buckles and straps, we HIGHLY recommend adding the sewn-down-pleats option as they compliment each other. We cannot accept returns for customized goods, i.e., belt loops, sewn pleats, custom length.

Yes! We can add 2 hidden side pockets to your Sport Kilt. You won’t even know they’re there unless you’re looking for them, or you’ve got your hands in your pockets. A great custom option for those that have to have pockets on their kilts!
Please Note: It will take us a couple of days to customize your kilt with pockets before your order ships. We cannot accept returns for customized goods, i.e., belt loops, sewn pleats, custom length.
Although you don’t need a belt to hold up your kilt, we’ll be glad to add ’em so you can wear your favorite belt.
Belt loops can also be used to thread your sporran “chain-belt” through. This is the traditional use of belt loops on a kilt.

The Perfect Fit
Finding your waist size
Using a measuring tape, wrap it around your waist where you’d like the top of your kilt to sit. Don’t hold in your stomach. This measurement is usually 2″ larger than the size of your pants. You might consider giving yourself an extra inch, or so, for comfort. Take your waist measurement (in actual inches) and see where it falls in our size grid below.
Finding your length
The ideal kilt length for you: While kneeling, measure from the top of your waist (where you’d wear your kilt) to the floor. Some say your kilt should just brush against the ground when you are kneeling. Of course personal preference is the rule! Have it YOUR way.
