WHEN KILTS WERE A NO-NO

Tartans have been through it all. In 1746, the Dress Act effectively banned the wearing of kilts in an effort to quell clan rebellion.

But you can’t keep a good cloth down for long. The act was repealed in 1782 and kilt production kicked into high gear shortly after.
