Ultra Marathon Runner
Age 35, born in Scotland and living with wife and daughter in what once was a coal mining town around 20 miles from Edinburgh I’ve been running around 7 years now and specialize in Ultra marathons (races over 26.2 miles long) and have at present completed around 20.
From 24 hour track races, single stage trail races and multiday expeditions.
Heres a list of a few of them:
John Lucas Memorial Ultra, 50 mile road race. Done this twice best time 9hrs 13mins
Devil of the Highlands, 43 mile trail race from Tyndrum to Fort William
Beacons Ultra, 45 mile trail race over the Brecon Beacons in Wales used as SAS training ground
Round Rotherham, 50 mile trail race
The Fellsman, 61 mile very tough terrain over the Yorkshire moors
Cateran Trail race 64 miles through the heart of Scotland (some how managed joint 2nd)
Hull 24hr race, furthest distance constantly lapping an athletics track (73miles)
Tooting 24hr race, as above but managed 93miles in the time limit this time.
Maggie’s Bike & Hike, 30 miles mountain bike followed by 43mile trail run, finished 3rd
Marathon des Sables, 130 mile 5 day stage race across the Sahara desert
British Ultra, 6 day stage race across the Scottish islands of Jura & Islay, winner of the Fighting Spirit award
Eagle Isle ultra, 75mile 3 day stage race on the Isle of Mull where I placed 3rd wearing my Sport Kilt
S2S Ultra, part of Andy Murrays Scotland to Sahara challenge, where we had 35 of the runners wearing kilts!
