First, a little background. I’ve worn kilts for about 15 years, though mostly in the context of Highland Games. I have one tailored wool kilt from Scotland that goes to games, weddings, family gatherings, etc, a Utilikilt Worker’s Model I don’t wear much anymore, and a MHW Elkommando Kilt that I wear hiking & backpacking. I decided I’d like to pickup akilt that I could wear casually, say to the bar, around town, etc.
I’ve seen Sport Kilts around for quite some time, but never wanted one because of the polyviscoe material. However, I decided I would go ahead and try it out due to a few key factors:
– Price. Even with all the added options, my Sport Kilt was under $200 with shipping and matching tartan flashes.
– Pockets. Slash pockets. This means I don’t have to wear a sporran (as long as I wear underwear).
– Machine washability, belt loops, stretch panel, and velcro closure were all added bonuses.
I received my kilt today and was surprised at the size of the box, a Fedex flat rate Small box. The Kilt packed down very small. I opened it up and tried it on immediately, and was relieved when it fit perfectly. I’m 6’2, 220lbs, 33 waist and the size large (Standard length) fits great. Sits at my pants waist (not traditional kilt waist) and hangs mid-way below the top of the knee. Plenty of adjustability; I could lose a little weight and it would still fit great, and (heaven forbid) I could gain and still fit as well. It definitely is not as flattering as a tailored kilt, but looks the part well enough.
The slack pockets are great, with one exception. The right-hand pocket is somewhat obscured by the lower leather strap; when engaged, this really makes it hard to fit your hand in the pocket to retrieve a pocket knife etc. I’m going to write Sport Kilt about this note. Otherwise, they’re great. You can easily fit your phone, wallet, knife, and maybe some extras between the two. No need for a Sporran!
The material is definitely on the lighter side. This is great for summer, but it doesn’t hang as well as a heavier wool kilt. Again, this is a fine trade-off when you consider it costs 25% as much and is machine washable. I do worry a bit about the durability of the fabric, but the workmanship is quite good.
The tartan is nice. My family is Clan Fraser, and the Fraser Hunting tartan is a favorite of mine. I do wish they carried other Fraser tartans. As it is, if I order another Sport Kilt, it might be a Black Watch, Braveheart, or California; something generic.
All things considered, I’m very pleased with my purchase. I would highly recommend the Sport Kilt as a casual kilt; something to wear to the bar, out to restaurants, concerts, etc. Spill beer, or salsa on it? Throw it in the wash!

Blackhawk Run
Design chosen for youth highland games. Research shows that clan Fraser comes from highlands, surrounding two-thirds of Loch Ness, they have been part of every Scottish armed conflict and historically very engaged in Scottish politics. A noble Scottish clan. – The kilts are well designed, well manufactured, durable and functional. A great purchase.

Really love it!
Got the works kilt for my husband, and he was skeptical at first, given that he’d never worn a kilt before… but after one morning of yard work wearing it, he is converted! Most days, he comes home from work and gets out of his work clothes, and into the kilt. He says he has never been so comfortable! I got him the pockets as an add on, and he likes them very much for carrying his phone and pocket knife. They are deep so his phone doesn’t slip out when sitting down.
As the wife, I am thrilled, because it’s super sexy… since when is a sweaty man doing yard work sexy? Since the kilt.

Perfect
My “Works” kilt, in Hunting Fraser, fit perfect and after another company screwed up my order, Seamus came to the rescue by custom making me a “military” length fly plaid. Sport Kilt will be hearing more from myself and some of my friends!
Thanks Again!!

Excellent Christmas Present
I purchased the Fraser sport kilt for Christmas for my son. We had gone to Scotland last May/June and I was able to get a kilt there but not a Fraser (our clan). My son really wanted a less formal kilt to wear out to bars (he says he gets a lot of attention from the girls when he walks in wearing a kilt). I had bought one for my playing in our band (Quaboag Highlanders) and loved it.
Short story is, he loved it, wore it out on New years (along with the excellent Flashes)!
