Howlsthunder –
Wasn’t sure at first…
I own 3 other sport kilts (2 regular kilts and a comfy kilt) and bought this one for walking the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage across Spain (500 miles). On the Camino, weight is everything so despite weighing more than shorts, I wanted a kilt since shorts can cause chafing for me. My other kilts are too heavy so I bought a hiking kilt with pockets.
The fit wasn’t the same as my other kilts (I think I got a measurement wrong) but it ended up being perfect. I was comfortable in temperatures from 50F-85F and in light rain. I never got my kilt soaked or had to wash it so no opinion there. Practically speaking it can be marginally trickier for women to pee off-trail and not that I cared but squatting in a kilt is much more modest than doing so in pants/shorts! No one got mooned. 😉
Best of all, I was the only pilgrim in a kilt, so people remembered me and it was a great conversation piece.
