Chris Moore –
I used a “handfasting scarf” or a binding cloth as our family calls it, as a part of my youngest daughters wedding ceremony. That cloth then became the swaddling cloth for my grandson when he was born to the couple 18 months later. It was a traditional means of binding our clans together as well as welcoming a new member. My grandson, into the clan: his first wearing of the tartan and a blessing and toast to a wonderful new and long life.
