* For accurate measuring, measure around your waist where you intend to wear your kilt. If you want to wear it lower down on your hips, that’s where you should take a measurement and see where it falls in the size chart.

Feel free to give us your hip measurement (usually right around your rear-end) in the "order notes" and we can take that into consideration when building your kilt.

Waist Measurement in Inches, DO NOT USE YOUR PANTS SIZE, and we don’t recommend going by dress sizes, as there is no industry standard for dress sizes.

Our standard mini-kilts are 14″ long, but you can give it a shorter hem length if you want. Note that we can always make a kilt shorter, but once it’s been cut, we can’t make it longer, so it does become non-returnable with a custom length.

All Sport Kilts are pleated, but you can give your kilt that custom fitted shape with a leaner profile by having us sew down the pleats.

The first 4-5 inches of pleats (measured from the waistband) are sewn down along the knife edge of the pleat (vertically). This provides a more refined look and makes for easier care and pressing.

PLEASE NOTE: We cannot accept returns for customized goods, i.e., belt loops, sewn pleats, custom length. Please make sure of your measurements!

You can have the opening side of your Sport Kilt fringed for extra flair!

You can add two 1" wide black leather straps and nickle-plated buckles to the opening end of your Sport Kilt. A functional, traditional looking adjustable double strap.

While all Sport Kilts are secured with Velcro at the waistband, you can give your kilt that custom look (and added security) by adding buckles and straps.

Also note: If you opt for the Buckles and straps, we HIGHLY recommend adding the sewn-down-pleats option as they compliment each other.

Also, it is best to hand wash (or dry clean) your kilt with leather straps.

Important: We cannot accept returns for customized goods, i.e., belt loops, sewn-down pleats, custom length, fringe, or buckles. Please be precise with measurements!

Now you can have us add 2 hidden side pockets to your Sport Kilt. You won't even know they're there unless you're looking for them, or you've got your hands in your pockets.

A great custom option for those that have to have pockets on their kilts!

Please allow us a couple of days to customize your kilt with pockets before your order ships.

Although you don't need a belt to hold up your kilt, we'll be glad to add 'em so you can wear your favorite belt.

Belt loops can also be used to thread your sporran "chain-belt" through. This is the traditional use of belt loops on a kilt.

Please note: We cannot accept returns for customized goods, i.e., belt loops, sewn pleats, custom length. Please measure carefully!

Description

New Macleod of Harris Sportkilt !

Descended from the Norse kings of Man and the North Isles, the clan of MacLeod comprised two main branches, the MacLeods of Skye and the MacLeods of Lewis. The MacLeods of Skye established the seat at Dunvegan, which remains the chief’s seat to this day.

The name of this branch of the MacLeod clan, ā€œSiol Tormodā€ from Tormod, grandson of Olaf the Black, who founded the clan. Tormod’s son supported Robert the Bruce in the War of Independence but, by and large, the MacLeods retained their own spirit of independence through the tortuous politics of fourteenth and fifteenth century Scotland.

The survival of the clan during the reign of James V was due mainly to the 8th chief of Dunvegan, Alasdair Crotach, or ā€œHump-Backā€ as he was known. It was during his chieftainship that the famous fairy tower of Dunvegan was built – now hailed as one of the finest monuments in the Hebrides. He was also renowned as a patron of the arts, encouraging such activity as piping and pibroch music.

Another notable chief, Ruaraidh Mor, the 15th chief, continued the work of Alasdair Crotach and succeeded in establishing Dunvegan as the cultural centre of the isles. His name lives on in the shape of a great drinking horn which plays an integral part in the rite of passage of every MacLeod chief. The horn, which holds one and a half bottles of claret must be downed in one draft ā€œwithout setting down or falling downā€.

One of the clan’s most treasured relics is the Fairy Flag of Dunvegan. It is said to have been woven by fairies and to possess magical properties. It has been kept at Dunvegan for centuries and is said to bring luck and fortune to the Clan MacLeod.
